Third Grade General Music:
In third grade we focus on defining the building blocks of music. By doing so, we use a fun story called, "Music Street" to help learning solfege syllables and other melodic terminology in a sequential manner. “Music Street” is a very fun, descriptive, and dramatic way to learn the “neighbors” who move to music street.
First Trimester: Simple sight singing and aural recognition including the solfege syllables Mi, So, La; AB Form; Basic Rhythm Values including quarter notes/rests and beamed eighth notes.
One of our first projects include a rhythmic composition. Students be able to collaboratively write and accurately perform a rhythmic composition using quarter notes, beamed eighth notes, and quarter rests. Students will rehearse with a partner to practice for performance! This will take two class periods to complete.
This project aligns to the following standards:
1.1.05.B.1: Identify the elements of music in response to aural prompts and printed music notational systems.
1.1.05.B.2: Demonstrate the basic concepts of meter, rhythm, tonality, intervals, chords, and melodic and harmonic progressions and differentiate basic structures.
1.3.05.B.1: Sing or play music from complex notation, using notational systems, mixed meter, and compound meter.
