Mrs. Zimmerman
Hello! My name is Alexa Zimmerman and I teach general music for grades three, four, five, and six. I am so thankful to do what I do everyday. Here is a little more information about me:
I went to Hofstra University for my undergraduate degree where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Theater, with a minor in Musical Theater. At Hofstra, I participated in operas, musical theater, dramas, and comedies mostly as a performer but I also helped behind the scenes. I learned how to build sets, construct costumes from scratch, focus lights, usher, and design props. Particularly, I learned how to create special effects make up which I became very proud of. I then assistant taught the special effects make up class for six semesters along side my adviser, which introduced me to the love of teaching.
After I graduated from Hofstra, I went to Westminster Choir College to obtain a master's degree in music education. I finally found the career path I was meant to have. I loved being able to work with students no matter what age group, obstacle or challenge. I have always said, "If I wasn't meant to perform for the rest of my life, I was meant to teach it!" While at Westminster, I was lucky enough to have incredible experiences that I won't ever forget. One in particular was when I sang "Beethoven's Ninth Symphony" with the Westminster Symphonic Choir, directed by Dr. Joseph Miller. Yannick Nézet-Séguin was our conductor and we performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia. Among all of my incredible experiences, the one most valuable is the ability to work with students in the field that I love and making a difference in the world.
When I'm not at Samuel Mickle teaching music, I am either singing with my band, "Rio" at weddings and corporate events throughout the greater Philadelphia area, filling in for other wedding bands and rock bands in the South Jersey, and being a loving wife to my husband, Rob and mom to our son, Jordan and our dog, Bruno. I am always on the go!
